James Chapman is one of those musicians which I hail a true talent.

Performing under the title of Maps, his warming “everything is going to be alright” sound is really, quite lovely. Being he emotional bloke that i am i’m finding it difficult to put across the masculine breakdown of structure, layout and levels of sound but instead that small amount of femininity that i possess is saying ” Aww, that’s so sweet”. So much so, I had to listen to Valium In The Sunshine on his MySpace player three times. http://www.myspace.com/mapsmusic  (Fortunately, I luckily timed it to perfection to be the first listener of that particular track, so if it does really well, I’ll be very proud of myself)

What I like about Maps is something which Moby didn’t have an his ridiculously successful album Play, it appears as if Maps has balls like Ian Brown of the Stone Roses. The sound is incredibly open to remixers left, right and centre because of the cracking foundational sound that he has produced.  This should be all over Ministry Of Sound and Global Underground albums. These electronica tracks (for me I should add) are not for the happy, hardcore raver on the dance floor but definately at 3am afterwards with no shadow of doubt.

Turning The Mind is going into my collection.
