Rosacea Keratitis. Cold beer and a curry or blindness?

IF YOU HAVE HAD THIS, PLEASE READ AND IF YOU CAN HELP OR ADVISE THEN I WOULD NO DOUBT YOU WILL DEFINATELY UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
I’ve just been diagnosed with Rosacea Keratitis which is the condition Rosacea affecting the eyes. Suffering from dry eyes, burning, itching, red where it’s supposed to be white and the fact that i am struggling to deal with the light.

I’ve been wearing my glasses on days where it isn’t even sunny. I can’t even watch telly without squinting and i’m finding it awkward to convince my mates that this is something a little more serious than the usual red-eye from burning the candle at both ends. And i’m not even doing that!

I’m on the usual Oxytetracycline and drops to put “tears” into my eyes. Steriod drops which i apparently have to be careful of and other stuff too. I can’t help thinking that the usual attitude of “F*** it, i’ll be alright” way is not going to work for me this time which is the reason why i have lost a small amount of clarity in my right eye already.

All i am needing is some help with the diet. All the things that i like, a beer, a Hot and Spicy Pizza, cheese, tea, tomatoes, spinach. All of which have been in moderation for a while is a massive factor of my well-being now, i have to change my entire lifestyle and i am willing to do it but if any one can help, that i could really do with..

Joe.

Hey a month ago I was diagnosed with the same, my eyes were very red and kept getting red blotches on my face. I didn’t realise that the two were related until I got referred to the eye clinic at the hospital and they told me. Turns out I actually had tiny spots on the corneas of my eyes as well! The symptoms were very similat to yours, unable to look at the light and my eyes were always watering.

Anyway, got prescribed FML steroid eyedrops (Fleurometholone) and Doxycycline antibiotics and the effect has been dramatic, a month later my face is almost completely clear and my eyes are back to normal too, have dropped the dosage of both of them but will probably have to keep taking them long term.

I was like you, thought it would be alright until all of a sudden it got really bad and kept having to stop the car cos my eyes were closing!

    Hope this helps,

    Jon

That’s quite comforting to know dude.

Do you have an idea of what might have triggered it off if you know what i mean? i haven’t exactly had the best lifestyle so i’m putting it down to that along with a boat load of stress i’ve had to deal with over the past year or so.

Did you have to quit anything like the beer or hot and spict food and stuuf or is it a little early to tell?

Don’t know what triggered it, apparently some people kind of grow into it.

At the moment I haven’t really quit anything, drink a lot less than I used to anyway but not stopped eating spicy food or drinking.

The difference is quite astounding, have you seen an optician as that was how i got a referral to the hospital? Before I had just been to my doctor and they kept fobbing me off. As soon as the specialist at the hospital saw me, she knew what it was.

That is pretty much the same story as what i am up to now lol!

My doctor has not seen this before and the consultant at the hospital saw me one day, gave me some drops and asked me to return the day after. I did and that is when he told me what the condition was.

Going back on Tuesday again for my third visit and hopefully there will not be many more after that. I can not believe that i actually do not want it to be sunny! lol!

Thank you for answering though man, you have been a legend..

    Dear Fellow Rosacea Sufferer’s,
I see that you are dealing with the Ocular Rosacea. I am not sure if you are also have facial Rosacea, as I do.
The diet can help…but even with a diet you will have flare ups. I would suggest you keep a log. And write down what makes you flare up. It can alomst anything! Just go basic for a few weeks. Some cereal, eggs, less Milk,,,less Sugar. Use Nusteviea for a sugar sub. you can get it at a all natural store as a suger sub. It’s good. Lunch..Salads…..any kind. Soups like Vegetable or something healthy…Dinner…I use a very clean cut of red meat …..Organic if you can afford it. But extra lean! and steamed Broccoli. Use the Zip bags in the micro. Seasoned with anything and some butter. You will know what makes you flare up. Like RED WINE, Yougert’s…Pizza….anything like that. Good luck.

I noticed that this is not the first time you write about the topic. Why have you decided to write about it again?
